Supporting The Way College Should Be: Affordable. Supportive. Career-Focused.

Keeping the Promise

$9 Million Raised | $25 Million Goal

Since 1911, SMC has delivered on its promise of affordable, supportive, career-focused education - what we call The Way College Should Be. We enter this campaign from a position of strength, having reduced debt, grown enrollment, and built financial stability. Keeping the Promise is how we sustain and strengthen that commitment, now and in the years ahead. Through this campaign, we are investing in academics, student experience, and athletics to make this work possible.

The Academics Priority

Image

For 115 years, Spartanburg Methodist College has focused on preparing students for meaningful careers and purposeful lives. That commitment shapes how we invest in the essentials of a great education: strong facilities, dedicated faculty, relevant programs, and outcomes that matter. As enrollment grows and new opportunities emerge, continued investment in the academic environment that makes this work possible remains essential. Your support allows SMC to deepen hands-on learning, broaden the experiences available to our students, and ensure our graduates leave well prepared for what comes next.

The Montgomery Science Building Renovation

Image

The Montgomery Science Building renovation is the centerpiece investment of the Keeping the Promise campaign. Your support creates fully accessible facilities for all students, modernizes laboratories and learning spaces with equipment that enables advanced experimentation, and pairs SMC’s signature small class sizes with state-of-the-art resources — preparing students to pursue careers in health and STEM-related fields through strong foundational study.

The Montgomery Building Renovation Video

This short video shows how a building that has served SMC since 1967 will be renewed to better support today’s students - with modern labs, full accessibility, and an environment that strengthens the hands-on learning already taking place.

The Student Experience Priority

Image

SMCX, the SMC Student Experience, ensures that academics are supported by the relationships and resources that help students thrive and persist to graduation. Your investment strengthens mental health services, creates vibrant campus life through clubs and weekend programming, enriches spiritual life, and provides leadership stipends so students can serve without choosing between leadership development and income - keeping the promise to care for the whole student.

The Athletics Priority

Athletics at SMC is a powerful driver of belonging and student retention. Your investment creates modern facilities, dedicated coaching and support spaces, expanded strength and conditioning resources for every team, and equitable access to high-quality spaces across women’s and men’s programs - helping student-athletes succeed both on the field and in the classroom.
